What you need to care for a bedridden patient

Severe chronic illness, serious injury, stroke – the reasons why a person may be immobilized. Modern medical furniture and facilities for the care of bedridden patients at home or in the hospital make it much easier for him to live in such difficult conditions, return to a state of psychological comfort and simplify the care of a person. About what these tools and devices are, we will talk in our article.

Medical beds
The products can significantly ease the condition of the bedridden patient and make it more convenient to care for him. The beds can be used both in a hospital hospital and at home. Let's list their main features.

Multi-sectional design. Thanks to the sections, you can change the position of the body – this makes it possible to regulate blood pressure, avoid swelling of individual parts of the body, makes it convenient to eat. The number of sections (from one to four) is selected individually depending on the injury or illness of a particular patient.
Mechanical (manual) or electric drive for adjusting the position of the sections. In the case of a completely recumbent patient, the latter is more convenient, since with the help of the control panel it allows the patient to raise or lower the sections himself.
Bumpers on one or both sides. They exclude the patient from falling out of bed, and also serve as a device for installing a mobile table for the purpose of eating. The sides can be removable or height-adjustable.
Built-in toilet. In many modern models, this sanitary equipment is also present – the container is placed under the bed. Beds with it are recommended for completely bedridden patients. With the help of an electric drive, the container is automatically opened, so that the patient can serve himself.
Medical beds have legs or a wheelbase. Models with legs are usually used at home, on wheels – in medical institutions to move patients.
Anti-bedsore mattresses and pillows
Prolonged immobile stay in bed threatens to disrupt blood circulation and the appearance of serious damage to the skin – bedsores, threatening tissue necrosis.

To prevent their occurrence, special anti-bedsore mattresses are used. They allow you to evenly distribute the pressure on certain areas of the body, the patient feels more comfortable in bed. Products are divided into two main types.

Static models are optimally suited for patients who can periodically get up and move around using a wheelchair, crutches or a walker. They are used to prevent the occurrence of bedsores. They are usually made of polyurethane foam. In fact, these are the same orthopedic mattresses that allow you to evenly distribute body weight and reduce pressure on all problem points – shoulders, buttocks, ankles, etc.

Dynamic tubular and cellular mattresses are indicated for completely bedridden patients. The design provides hollow sections of elastic materials in the form of cells or tubes (the latter, as a rule, are stretched the entire length of the mattress).

The product is inflated by the compressor for 5-10 minutes. At the same time, air is pumped into one hollow section and pumped out of the neighboring ones. Thus, there is a mild massage and therapeutic effect, since the pressure on the body and skin is constantly changing, blood circulation remains stable. The tubes and cells are inflated and deflated automatically.

In the absence of a sectional medical bed and an anti-bedsore mattress, hypoallergenic anti-bedsore pillows made of latex or foam rubber can be used. They allow you to lift your head, upper body, legs, and support the patient on his side.

Bed linen

For the care of bedridden patients, it is recommended to use waterproof reusable sheets, mattress pads and duvet covers. The products are made of "breathable" natural fabrics with the addition of synthetics. The material is layered and functions according to the type of diapers: the upper layers absorb moisture, the lower layer in the form of a non-slip synthetic film retains it in the fabric.

Such sheets do not provoke the appearance of diaper rash, it is convenient and comfortable for the patient to lie on them.
Special sliding sheets are used to facilitate the patient's movement. They are made of polyester. They allow you to easily turn a person on his side or – with the help of special fasteners on the canvas – move him to a sitting position.

A wide range of medical furniture and care products for bedridden patients is presented in the catalog of the salon of medical equipment "Reamed". In addition to these products, you can buy bedside tables, support racks, clamps, underwear, devices for performing hygiene procedures and much more. All products are certified.
