SL-903 REFLEX AFO Orthosis is an ideal solution for patients suffering from weakness or absence of dorsiflexion of the foot, as it helps maintain the mobility needed in daily life. The orthosis has excellent spring properties in the front and heel areas and is perfectly stabilized on the shin. It provides stable support of the splint along the anterior border of the tibia, pelotte support in the lower tibial region, and in the area of the proximal tibial metaphyses.
The orthosis prevents foot drop during the swing phase. It makes moving over uneven terrain and climbing stairs much easier. It reduces the risk of additional injuries and falls and prevents the toe from catching on obstacles such as thresholds, stones, carpet edges, etc.
The orthosis is lightweight and discreet, so it is not noticeable under clothing. It should be used with rigid and sturdy footwear. We recommend first placing the orthosis inside the shoe, then inserting the foot into it. This way, the orthosis acts like a shoehorn. After putting on the orthosis, make sure the Velcro straps used to attach the orthosis to the limb are tightened securely around the leg. This prevents unnecessary shifting of the orthosis and possible skin abrasions.
The AFO, used for foot drop and ankle instability, also affects the knee joint. When the patient contacts the ground with the heel and raises the center of gravity, the upper part of the orthosis causes the knee to bend. The SL-903 REFLEX AFO assists knee flexion in patients with spastic knee extensors and reduces knee hyperextension.
